Dear Upper Providence Residents:
My name is Rasheen Davis Merritt Esquire, and I am running for the Upper Providence Township (UPT) Council in District 2. My multiple roles as an underwriter, litigation law partner, Director and Associate General Counsel, wife, and mother have equipped me with the skill sets necessary to be an effective leader on the Township Council. I truly believe that to have a sense of community you must be involved in the community. I ask for your support and your vote.
More about me: A lifelong resident of the Delaware Valley, my husband and I have lived in UPT for seven years. I received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Risk Management and Actuarial Science from Temple University. I graduated from the Temple University Beasley School of Law’s evening division in 2002, earning a Juris Doctor degree. During law school I worked full-time as an underwriter. After law school I practiced litigation law for 15 years, eventually becoming one of the youngest partners at my firm. I now serve as in-house counsel at one of the largest hospitals in the area.
In addition to my professional practice, I have volunteered legal services for several community groups. I served on the Board of the Philadelphia AIDS Law Project for four years and as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Center in the Park, a non-profit community center focused on the needs of older people. In addition, I served on the Patient Life-Sustaining Wishes Advisory Committee for the Department of Health. Currently, I am a Board Trustee for the Philadelphia Bar Foundation.
My family and I have been active members in the Upper Providence community through volunteering both in our children’s schools, sports, and in various community activities such as helping at the food bank.
My commitment to UPT: I have no doubt that my experience, both personal and professional, will bring a fresh perspective to the UPT Council. I will use my knowledge and experience to make sound decisions in the best interest of our community. I will provide open, honest, and fiscally responsible representation. I will advocate for more transparency in governmental operations and funding. Finally, as a mother of two young children, I will work to ensure that they live in a vibrant and safe community.
I look forward to serving you. To help me get elected, please donate and/or volunteer for my campaign via this website's Volunteer page.
